Your building will not look in October the way it looks in August.

Most school leaders feel that shift coming and cannot name what causes it. Bring your leadership team to a free 45-minute session and we will name it together.
You know the pattern. August feels possible. Then around the third week of October the building changes. Referrals climb. The lounge goes quiet. Somebody good starts talking about leaving.
It is not the students. It is not your curriculum. Student outcomes mirror adult capacity, and by October your building looks exactly like whatever your adults can carry.
We started F-rated. Eleven years of state End of Grade data later, we ranked Top 50 in North Carolina for academic growth, two years running, and math proficiency nearly doubled. Verified by the state, not by me.

    Why I built this

I am Dr. Stacey Owens-Howard. I founded Z.E.C.A. School of Arts and Technology in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 2013, in a military community where families and staff rotate out every two to three years and the students walk in carrying more than any child should have to.

I came in with the standard school administration training. Leave your problems at the door. Manage the behavior. Implement the curriculum. I watched all of it fall apart in real time, and not because my people did not care. Because nobody had ever addressed what they were carrying.

So I built something else. Twelve years later I have the state data to show it held.

I am a National Board Certified Teacher, I hold an Ed.D., and I have written eleven books for educators and families. But the credential that matters here is that I did not learn this in a program. I learned it in a building.

What the forty-five minutes actually is

Forty-five minutes, virtual, free, for you and your leadership team together. Not a webinar. Not a sales presentation with a slide at the end. A working session on your building.

You will describe what October usually feels like in your school, and I will show you the mechanism underneath it. I will walk you through eleven years of state data and what it actually cost to get it. And we will look at what you are already running, your PBIS, your MTSS, your SEL curriculum, and I will show you the lens that lays over all of it so you can see why some of it is not sticking. I am not going to ask you to replace anything.

Bring your assistant principal, your counselor, your instructional coach. Three to six people is right. It works because the people who would need convincing later are already in the room.

At the end, if it feels like a fit, I will tell you what full staff professional development looks like and what it costs. If it does not, you still walk away with language for something you have been carrying without a name for it, and I will not follow you around the internet afterward.

    That is the whole deal.
